Ecological Footprint after 24 days

to reduce my ecological footprint for the day, i started the day off by using as little water as possible when brushing my teeth. I also used only one lamp in my room as opposed to the usual two. Instead of driving my car to the gym, I decided to ride my skateboard. I took a shorter shower before i went to bed and did not watch t.v. When I retook the ecological footprint test, my ecological footprint reduced by .5 planets Earths to 4.1 planets Earths from not driving as much.
I think it is more cost effective to skate instead of drive and it is good exercise as well. I think I will continue skating places that are close. I live in a dorm and therefore i do not have to pay for water or electricity so i don't think it is cost effective. Although, I understand that saving water is crucial so I will continue to try and be more aware when using the sink.

My Ecological Footprint

It takes 20.3 global acres of the Earth's productive area to support my lifestyle and if everyone lived like me, we would need 4.6 planet Earths to provide enough resources. Also, the majority of my ecological footprint (when broken down) contains food and services. I am appalled at this data and will do everything I can during the next 24 hours to reduce the effects of my ecological footprint.

my day without communication technology

i woke up and started at 10:30am. I went to class until 5:30pm. My classes went by a lot faster because i wasn't always checking my cell phone for the time. The day went smooth until my roomate and i were heading to a concert. I told him that i would get to go at andros cafeteria while he got the car and we would meet in the parking lot but i forgot i didnt have my cell so it took 15 minutes of me walking around aimlessly to find him and we were a little late to the concert. I forgot to tell my friends so they were a little upset the next day until i explained to them the assignment. The day was less stressful and i got a lot of work done because my friends werent bothering me. I dont think i could of completed the assignment if i didnt have music. It's the only thing that kept me busy besides homework.

Environmental issue

Im going to discuss the environmental concerns regarding non- biodegradable plastic. I want to focus on the three main plastic products that are causing the most damage to our environment. These products include plastic bottles, can holder rings, and grocery bags. I will discuss the negative effects these plastic products have on the environment now and in the future and ways to fix these problems.

Video Game Review

The review I read was by Lark Anderson about Super Smash Brothers Brawl on Nintendo Wii. The review introduces the game by stating how long its been since the previous two sequels have been made. It hypes the reader by describing how it appeals to both die hard smash fans and first time players alike. The reviewer compares brawl to the previous smash games in order to describe the new aspects of the game. These features include new characters, items, levels and much more. The review gives an in depth description of how to play the game and strategies that will help you master the game as well. The reviewer is obviously impressed with the game and shows this with statements like, "it is one of the most impressive looking game on the Nintendo Wii." Specifically, Lark admires the stunning new graphics and banging song track. I am a huge fan of the game and I agree with everything Lark says.

The next review was by Jeff Gertsmann about Mortal Combat: Deadly Alliance on Nintendo Gamecube. Jeff introduces the review by describing how the mortal Combat games have decreased in both quality and popularity over the years. But he states this version is "suprisingly well done" compared to the less popular sequels. One reason this version is better than the others is because the characters are a variety of old and new faces from the sequels. Also there are better graphics and attacks because the player can use different stances and longer combos to combat the enemy. The characters have new moves but the game fails to incorporate popular old moves such as "the uppercut," which may dissapoint long time players. The review describes this game as more serious compared to the others. It is the first 3D Mortal Combat game made and although it is not quite up to par with other 3D fighting games, it "does a great job of balancing the classic Mortal Kombat style with enough new additions to draw in people who aren't completely familiar with the rest of the series." I have never played this game but I have played previous versions and after reading the review I anticipate this Mortal Combat to be the best one on the market.

Video Game Analysis

The first game i played was called Orphan Feast. In the game, you play the part of a creepy old man, named Thomas, who looks similar to the Grim Reaper. The objective of this game is to collect as many orphans in Thomas' napsack as you can. As you walk down the streets you have to kill fat ladies and authorities that bring your health down whenever they make contact. In order to kill them and injure the babies, you are given a scythe as well as other throwing items. You must injure the babies before bagging them and if you fail to do so than they will bring your health down aswell. I would classify this game as a persuasive game. The game is persuading parents to stop putting their children up for adoption, by showing young orphans being beaten and kidnapped. Although this game is somewhat disturbing to play, I believe the message behind it is a good one. If people see orphans roaming the streets, being beaten and kidnapped, than they will feel sympathy for the young children and want to help.
The next game I played was called five minutes to kill yourself. You play a business man who roams around the office building in search of ways to hurt himself. The game provides dangerous office supplies such as paper slicers and staplers as well as employees who will beat the shit out of you if you talk smack to them. If you aquire enough injuries from the supplies and employees under 5 min than you kill yourself and win. I would classify this game as a persuasive game. The game is similar to the first game in that it portrays a disturbing image in order to catch the players attention and get a positive message across. I believe the game portrays a traditional business man in a traditional business office trying to kill himself in order to convey the message that you must find a job that interests you in order to enjoy life.
The third game I played was called Catch The Sperm 2. Throughout the game, sperm and other weird objects fly by the screen. In order to prevent the sperm and objects from reaching the egg, you are given a condom gun, which you move up and down depending on where the sperm are located. I would classify this game as educational because it educates and informs people to use condoms to prevent diseases and unplanned pregnancies. This game, like the other two games, is a bit gross but portrays a good message. It supports safe sex through the use of condoms, as well as the fight against AIDS, with signs that go bye in the background stating "stop AIDS." Although this game has a positive message, I do not think it is very effective in getting the point across because it fails to show the consequences of unprotected sex.
